Keynesian and Neoclassical Closures in an Agent-Based Context
نویسندگان
چکیده
Since the closure debateof the 1980s it is well known that comparative static derivatives in analytical macro models are highly sensitive to the closure rule selected. This led Keynesians to conclude that Keynesian closures were superior to those favored by the orthodoxy and vice-versa. It is argued that with the advent of agent-based or multi-agent systems, the closure debate is superseded. While elements of both Keynesian and neoclassical models survive the transition to the more synthetic environment, an agentbased approach eliminates the need for drastic simpli cation that was at the root of the debate from the beginning.

Growth , Distribution and Macro Closures : a General
A computable general equilibrium model with eight productive sectors is built, and calibrated using data of 1960 Japan as the base. The sector division reflects the intraurban modern-traditional dichotomy. Intraurban unskilled wage differentials are assumed to be caused by the employers' labor cost minimization behavior when there exist sector-specific training costs and quit rates. These quit ...
متن کاملIntermediate Macroeconomics: Keynesian Models
At the risk of some oversimplification, the leading alternatives to the neoclassical / real business cycle model for understanding short run fluctuations are Keynesian models. I phrase this in the plural because there are multiple different versions of the Keynesian model, which differ in terms of how the aggregate supply block of the economy is formulated. Whereas neoclassical models emphasize...

This paper is a critical review of and a reader’s guide to a collection of papers by Robert E. These beautifully written and wisely argued papers integrated macroeconomics, microeconomics, finance, and econometrics in ways that restructured big parts of macroeconomic research. 1 Arro...
متن کاملTheoretical Integration of New Institutional Economics
The purpose of this study is to investigate the theoretical integration or eclecticism of New Institutional Economics (NIE) on the basis of the four-stage Tillings model. The first step demonstrates that the new institutionalists, as to confront the hegemonic scientific mainstream, stated that their goal was to moderate neoclassical assumptions, but in fact, their main goal was to expand and st...
متن کاملAre Keynesian Uncertainty and Macrotheory Compatible? Conventional Decision Making, Institutional Structures, and Conditional Stability in Keynesian Macromodels
The theory of capital investment is the cornerstone of the theory of macroeconomic dynamics, and the question of whether or not the agents involved in the investment decision have the information needed to make individually and collectively optimal choices is central to capital accumulation theory. New Classical and neoclassical theory assume that they do. Keynesian and Post Keynesian theory as...
